Improving the Regulatory Environment, Industry Infrastructure and Institutional Performance for Greater Impact

The Iraqi Inclusive Financial Services Stakeholders’ Conference 2010, “Putting the Poor First: Improving the Regulatory Environment, Industry Infrastructure and Institutional Performance for Greater Impact”, organized by USAID-Tijara Provincial Economic Growth Program was held under the patronage of the Governor of Erbil His Excellency Nawzad Mawlood in Erbil from November 28th – 30th, 2010.

The Iraqi Inclusive Financial Services Stakeholders’ Conference 2010 is – by far – the largest microfinance event in the country. This year’s conference was attended by more than 150 participants and featured 25 speakers from the region and around the globe. A diverse audience of microfinance practitioners, government officials, investors, donors and other industry stakeholders were present, which demonstrates a growing interest in the Iraqi microfinance sector.

The conference focused on addressing the challenges and opportunities in the Iraqi microfinance industry as it continues to grow, and the implications that regional and global trends and developments have in the country.

In addition to the wide-ranging conference program, the conference also presented a significant networking opportunity. Participants represented a broad spectrum of industry-related representatives and professionals ranging from microfinance practitioners, bankers, investors, and donors to government officials and other industry stakeholders.
